Sri Padmanabha Teertha was born to Sri Narayan Rao & Smt Savitri Bai, devotees and orthodox couple of Aadhya gauda Brahmin family in bhardwaja gothra at Pata village of Ratngiri district in south konkan and his orginal name was Sakharam. 

He was soft hearted person, he took Brahmopadesham at the age of 8, he felt that Madhukari (Bhiksha) very difficult so he left it throughout his life, “he came on earth as an ideal saint because did not beg for mere his lively hood”. Life ambition attracted him towards philosophical and spiritual path, he quit the house to find out Eshwar. He struggle to found his destination towards Eshwar mean while a saint Aatmarama in Akkalakote, suggested him. Hence Sakharam went Samadhi for 7 days, then Aatmarama put his holy hand and blessed “Pragnanam Brahma”, next movement Sakharam accomplished Aatma Sakshatkara . He learned secretes of philosophy and ancient traditional methods of sanatana dharma through Aatmarama.

His aspiration inspired him towards Sanyasa, he took Paramhamsa Sanyasa with the blessed hands of Sri Swayam Prakash Teertha, in Narasihma Vadi then onwards he named as “Sri Padmanabha Teertha”. Still he called by the people as Maharajaru. He wrote Vyakhyanam to Aatmabhoda of Sri Shankaracharya,and presented as gurudakshina to his beloved Guru Sri Swayam Prakash Teertha.

 

Advaita ” is not opposite to any sidhantha , it is only the foundation to other sidhantha’s and it is the known factor. He practiced and proved it by his speeches and literary works throughout in his life. He used to travel nearly 45 miles every day, where ever he had gone he preached the people about ancient traditional customs and roots of sanatana dharma with in shortest span of 42 years, He spread them in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa and South Costal Area. The major principles of Advaita – “Brahma Satya Jagath Mithya”, “Jivo Brahmivanaparaha” take them to the heart of the people by his easiest style of language, called him as Marathi Shankaracharya by his beloved follower Sri. Shivananda Maharaj.

He had chosen Karwar (costal area in Karnataka) as his philosophical center because then the people of the area followed many kinds of superstitions dragged them to the depth of chaos, to uplift them towards spiritual path, He establish Math and coroneted the idol of Dattatreya at Bada in Karwar. He incarnated to shiva dixit and continued the parampara successfully.

1. Sri. Vadikar Haribhatt: He took Sanyasa, then he known as Jagadguru Shankara Bharati of Sri Kudali Shringeri Peetha.
2. Sri. Vittala Vinayaka Vaghale: He took Sanyasa from Maharajaru and known as Sri Anirudha Teertha.
3. Sri. Prayaga Venkanna: After took Sanyasa known as Sri Narayana Teertha
4. Sri. Shiva Dixit: After the demise of his wife, on 1938 of Bahudhanya Samvatsara he took Sanyasa at the blessed hands of Sri. Amalananda Teetha of Sri Dwaraka Peetha. Then onwards he became known as Sri Sri Shivananda Teertha.

Brahama Nirvana

Sri Mat. Paramahamsa Padmanabha Teertha entered in to eternal Samadhi in 1910 of Sri Sadharana Samvatsara. Mahasamadhi was performed at Bada Math in karwar.
