Sri Shivananda Teertharu

Sri Shiva Dixit had cultural and metaphysical atmosphere at home and naturally had good learning of literature and music. He was very good at Pravachanam and Keerthanas alternately a big crowed of devotees around.

He was a primary school teacher before he fell in to the influential blessings of Sri Padmanabha Teertha in 1895 AD and became wholehearted follower of Sri Padmanabha Teertha. On the blessings of his guru he started pravachanam on NigamaSaramrutha.

Shiva Dixit was blessed with Gurupadesha by Sri Padmanabha Teertha at Kodibag of Karwar. He was enlightened and went in to Samadhi. Sri Padmanabha Teertha said that shiva Dixit has reached the destination. As a mark of this in 1959 a well was dug at kodibag.

Shiva dixit was renamed as Satchidananda Swaroopa Sri Shivananda Maharaj at Shirur on Vaishaka Dwadashi by inserting his conventional ring in to the finger of Shivananda Maharaja as a mark of his incarnation.

Sri Shivananda Maharaja came down to Harihara with his wife in 1933 AD and established Veda Pathashala and used to conduct pravachanam and satya sangha.After the demise of his wife, on 1938 of Bahudhanya Samvatsara he took Sanyasa at the blessed hands of Sri. Amalananda Teetha of Sri Dwaraka Peetha. Then onwards he became known as Sri Sri Shivananda Teertha.

To full fill the wishes of his followers at Harihara, Omkar Math was established on the southern side of Sri Harihareshwara Temple, Harihara in 1941 with an aim of spreading Advaita Tatva of Sri Adi Shankaracharya through Jnana-Bhakti marga, likewise Sri Sharada Math at Kundugloa, Adhyatma mandira at Davanagere and Guru Bhajan Mandira at Honnavar.

Sri Shivananda Theeratha Swamiji entered in to eternal Samadhi on 1948 Sunday of Sri Shaka 1871 Sarvadhari Samvatsara. His mahasamadhi was performed at Seva mantap Kodibag of karwar.
